Germany has been something that changed my life. The most important thing that I gained from it, I would say, is the experience to be independent, regardless of wherever you are. I was once staying in Berlin for two days alone in a hostel and trekking the streets, searching for the Brandenburg Gate, trying to find out which bus or underground rail or tram to take in the hybrid Capital of Germany. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life as I had to do it all by myself and as I was eating a Berlinien Currywurst while watching the bustling activity in Alexander Platz with its magic shows, comic shows and other events I could not help but contemplate on all the great friends that I have found within the four months, the great experiences that I have gathered and the lessons I have learnt such as being patient and tolerant, being calm in chaos and picking up a new culture and language!
The courses offered at the Justus Liebig University was diverse and intriguing and the different approaches were eye opening and very inspirational. Being out of the comfort zone for the summer semester, even though my heart ached for the loved ones back home and the spicy food and baila music, was worth every second. I thank the University of Colombo, the English Department and the International Unit University of Colombo for this great opportunity.
